Amy Solovay Sailing Aboard a Classic Vintage Wooden Sailboat Called Typhoon

The day before my husband, Mike, and I set sail to cross the Atlantic Ocean in our Peterson 34, I spent the morning shopping for last-minute essentials at the Gander Mountain Sports store in Fredericksburg, Virginia. Since then, the company rebranded; it is now known as Gander Outdoors. Years after our Atlantic crossing, I was thrilled to have the opportunity to write for the Gander Outdoors blog. The blog posts I wrote for them have since been moved to Overton’s blog.

I’m knowledgeable about a broad variety of outdoor sports and enjoy writing about sailing, boating, kayaking, rowing, wakeboarding, water skiing, hiking, camping, mountain biking, skiing and snowboarding.

Amy Solovay’s Contributions to Workology

Business management is one of the topics I write about most frequently. Before I began freelancing, I completed Nine West Group’s management trainee program and worked at a couple of jobs that required me to manage other people. I draw on these experiences frequently in my writing:

Amy Solovay’s Glam.com Feature Articles: Fashion, Beauty, Relationships and Lifestyle Topics

Fashion is one of my strongest areas of professional expertise because I worked in the textile industry for about a decade. Some of my employers and clients were fashion brands; others were textile manufacturers who made fabric for fashion brands; and one was an academic institution that educates aspiring fashion designers and merchandisers.

Glam.com covers a variety of topics relating to fashion, beauty, skincare, hairstyles, haircare, photography, and relationships. I got a feature writer gig with them because of my fashion expertise. As a result of my collaboration with their team, I also gained significant expertise researching and writing about beauty, relationships, photography and other lifestyle topics they cover.

Please note that Glam.com feature articles are collaborative. One or two Glam.com editors typically work with their writers on each article. I honestly wish the editors were given an “edited by” credit because their contributions to each article are substantial.

I managed the Crochet.About.com subdomain from July 2009- July 2014. In 2009, the New York Times Company owned About.com, and it was a Comscore top-100 web property. In 2012, IAC acquired the network. IAC later migrated some of my content to thesprucecrafts.com and rebranded the network as Dotdash Meredith.

My primary responsibilities as the Crochet Expert at About.com / TheSpruceCrafts.com:

• Keyword research; on-page and off-page SEO
• Writing, editing and posting content including long-form articles, short blog posts, and a weekly email newsletter
• Creating photos and charts to accompany the written content
• Managing the subdomain’s infrastructure including landing pages
• Social media marketing with the goal of increasing pageviews and newsletter subscriber count
• Managing other writers’ and pattern designers’ contributions to About.com’s crochet subdomain
